About Me

I am 27 years old and have been working as a receptionist for the majority of the last ten years. Since graduating from high school in 1998 I have been searching for some purpose in life. What do I want to do with my life? What career is right for me? What will I enjoy the most? These questions have led me to research numerous avenues of work, but have never really gotten me anywhere.

In 2000 I thought I had it figured out. I decided to go to college for Fashion Design at The Illinois Insitute of Art. After completing my 2nd year with half the credits needed to graduate, I opted not to continue my education there--which I later regretted just for the fact that I would've had a degree already and at least been doing something I had an interest in. But while I had a strong interest in fashion, something about fashion design just didn't seem right for me. Additionally, I was digging myself more and more into debt and barely had money to pay for school supplies.

In the years after leaving college I worked full time and explored many different career options. Each time I discovered a profession, I thought "this could be it!" Being young and constantly broke, I was always asking myself, "Is this something I will enjoy, and be able to make a lot of money doing?" What I really should have been asking myself is, "will this profession be fullfilling? What can I bring to the world with this profession?" I went from wanting to be a fashion designer, to wedding planner, to fashion illustrator, to graphic designer. All of these are things I could see myself doing and enjoying...until recently someone suggested to me "why don't you teach art?" It made sense. All of my passions in life have been involving art. There's nothing I would like more than to share my love of art and design with others. So, with this new mission in life I am setting out to become an art teacher. Now all I need to do is figure out how to pay my way through college and internships before actually becoming a teacher. Should be a piece of cake! (ha...if only it was that easy.)
